Gift books to share: First edition

From time to time we receive gifts of books, and increasingly many of those titles are duplicates of ones already in the collection here in the Diocesan Resource Center.  We simply don't have room to add most duplicate copies, nor room to add the variety of titles that, in an ideal world,  we'd like to include.  I'm pleased to be able to offer some of these titles to you, for your congregation's library or for yourself.  This is the first edition of such offering, but I anticipate that it will become a regular feature of this blog.  All of the books listed below are Read more »

A chum of mine wrote to an on-line e-mail group of which I am a member: "The Skagit Valley Herald carried a story about the Episcopal Summit (sic) today; oddly the Vicar's name was not mentioned." Well, I would hope not!

Today at GC77 we talked about the budget, and talked, and talked, and talked. As any seasoned deputy could have predicted, we wasted another hour on motions to amend, all of which were defeated, and adopted the budget as presented.

San Francisco was the setting for the 1949 General Convention.  The Presiding Bishop was the Rt. Rev. Henry K. Sherrill, the Bishop of Olympia was the Rt. Rev. Stephen Fielding Bayne, Jr.  and Dean Sprouse was elected President of the House of Deputies.

So Many Issues; So Little Time

The early-morning news reported that the Anglican Church of New Zealand had rejected the Anglican Covenant. This issue -- Will The Episcopal Church subscribe to the Anglican Covenant? -- will come before GC77 sometime this week. New Zealand's action makes the issue "mooter" than it was yesterday. Even if every province which has not yet considered the covenant were to adopt it, there would still be insufficient consents for it to become the law of our world-wide church. Read more »
