Safe Church - Safeguarding God's Children

Bishop Rickel has recently implemented a new program required for all active clergy, whether parochial or non stipendiary, in addition to youth workers, volunteers, and vestry/bishop's committee members to raise awareness concerning issues of sexual and emotional abuse, and to provide tools for prevention that we can all use to protect our children from harm, promote safety and bring healing. This program is mandatory for all those who share their gifts of ministry with our children, as well as for retired clergy who regularly work in a parish or mission, and is open to interested parishioners as well. The training sessions are no more than four hours. Attendees must stay for the entirety of the training session to earn credit.

If you would like to schedule a Safeguarding God's Children training session at your church, please contact Blaire Notrica, Executive Assistant to the Bishop. It is best to plan at least one month in advance and have two dates in mind.

It is the parish's responsibility to provide coffee, tea, water, etc., for attendees. Lunch is brown bag. The sponsoring parish is also responsible for reimbursing the trainer(s) for mileage, and any costs associated with copying printed material needed for the course. The sponsoring parish will need to identify a contact person for registrants, including email and phone number. This person will be required to obtain the list of attendees from the trainers as well.
