St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will be honored with a visit from The Rev. Dr. Kamal Farah from June 29-July 2, 2018. Over the course of four days, Fr. Kamal will present a multi-part teaching series titled “The Gospel in Context.” He will also preach at all three services on Sunday, July 1st. All of the teachings are offered free of charge and they are open to the public. Free will offerings may be accepted. Participants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as they are able; however each session is stand-alone, so attending one is fine also.
“The people of St. Paul’s are in for a very special experience when Fr. Kamal visits this summer. I met Fr. Kamal on a St. Paul’s trip to the Holy Land. He was our guide for that trip. Fr. Kamal brought the unique perspective of an indigenous Christian to our pilgrimage. Fr. Kamal’s deep understanding of our faith was obvious. His ability to share the Gospel story was inspiring. I was impressed with the way he shared his Middle Eastern perspective of the Gospel. It shed new light on the Gospel for me. I highly recommend attending as many of his lectures as possible, being present to hear him preach on Sunday, July 1st.” -The Rev. Charles W. Whitmore
Fr. Kamal, as he is affectionately known, was raised in northern Galilee, educated at the Sorbonne, and has doctoral degrees in both Linguistics and Comparative Law. Laurie Parrish, who has been on multiple pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Greece with Fr. Kamal, describes him as a compassionate priest, great teacher and fun guide. His knowledge of the Holy Land, and his interactions with the landscape and its pilgrims offer unique opportunities to see and hear things that visitors would ordinarily never encounter.
Father Kamal was ordained in 1967, and since then he has served a parish priest, teacher, headmaster, government/church liaison, pilgrimage guide and Senior Lecturer/Course Director at St. George’s College in Jerusalem. Father Kamal resides in Nazareth, teaching and guiding Holy Land pilgrims from all over the world.
“While on pilgrimage through Greece, my greatest experience was listening to our guide Fr. Kamal…speak about our relationship with God. It enriched and deepened my own faith.” – Carol Strom
