SUMMARY:Silence and Honey Cakes: Lessons from the Desert for Modern Communities
DESCRIPTION:February 21\, 8:30 am \nin person in Bloedel Hall and online via Zoom\, registration required. \nwith the Rev. Sr. Miriam Elizabeth Bledsoe\, OSH \nFrom the beginning\, we were created for belonging and community. And yet\, community also comes with many challenges\, including the temptations of individualism\, conformity\, competition and power. How do we discern and nourish the truth of who we are and who our neighbor is? How do we manage the variations of gifts\, limitations\, calls and vocations within our communities while also nurturing the persons in those communities and in the margins? The desert mothers and fathers of the 3rd and 4th centuries understood that the heart of the Christian path was communion with God and with one another. They also knew the challenges of belonging and community. These ammas and abbas will be our teachers as we explore belonging\, loving\, and navigating the blessings and temptations that can manifest in community. \nSuggested donation: $25. Registration is required for in-person or online participation (register to receive Zoom link).

SUMMARY:The Significance of Lent Amid Political Turmoil
DESCRIPTION:February 21\, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm \nLent Quiet Morning\nSt Paul’s Episcopal Church | 15 Roy Street Seattle\nOne entrance only: from the church parking lot\nThe quiet morning is not live-streamed or recorded. \nJoin Fr. Samuel Torvend as we reflect on the spiritual significance of the Lenten practices of fasting\, prayer\, and almsgiving in the midst of much social and political turmoil – and how these ancient practices enable us to engage the real world in which live – with hope. \nThree short reflections are each followed by a period of silence for prayer\, meditation\, writing in one’s journal\, reading\, or taking a meditative walk in the church. Donations are warmly welcomed at the end of the morning but not required.

SUMMARY:Come As You Are Eucharist
DESCRIPTION:Sundays\, 4:00 pm \nThe Come As You Are service is casual and welcoming. While it follows the structure of Anglican liturgy\, it’s designed for those who may have a hard time sitting still\, whether you’re a toddler or an octogenarian. This service creates opportunities for all to participate in worship\, either by moving between prayer stations\, hearing the Gospel told in story form\, engaging in an interactive sermon\, or gathering around the altar. It’s for people who have never been to church before\, and for anyone seeking a place to belong.

SUMMARY:Choral Evensong
DESCRIPTION:Sung at the close of day in Cathedrals and churches throughout the world\, Choral Evensong is a service of Evening Prayer\, derived from the ancient offices of Vespers and Compline. It is an opportunity for peaceful meditation in the midst of a busy week. \nEvery Sunday at 5:30 pm. \nFollowed by a reception.

SUMMARY:Baroque Brilliance: Bach & Handel
DESCRIPTION:March 14\, 8:00 pm \n  \nOn March 14\, the Seattle Choral Company presents Baroque Brilliance\, an exhilarating evening of sacred music by two giants of the Baroque era: Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. \nThis concert pairs two remarkable works that reveal the composers’ contrasting yet complementary voices. Bach’s Mass in G minor\, BWV 235\, written in Leipzig in the 1730s\, is a deeply reflective work of spiritual beauty. Drawing on earlier cantatas\, Bach shapes intricate counterpoint and luminous choral writing into a refined and intimate expression of faith. \nIn striking contrast\, Handel’s Dixit Dominus\, HWV 232\, composed in Rome in 1707\, brims with youthful energy and dramatic flair. This virtuosic setting of Psalm 110 showcases Handel’s early mastery of the Italian Baroque style\, bursting with bold rhythms and exuberant choral writing. \nTogether\, these masterworks offer a vivid portrait of Baroque sacred music at its most brilliant—intimate and majestic\, disciplined and dazzling. \nAdding more artistry to this concert event is an exceptional roster of guest artists: sopranos Natalie Ingrisano and Maria Männistö\, countertenor José Luis Muñoz\, tenor Stephen Rumph\, baritone Charles Robert Stephens\, and the acclaimed North Corner Chamber Orchestra.

SUMMARY:A Piece of Ground: South African documentary + conversation with the filmmaker
DESCRIPTION:March 21 & 25 at 6:00 pm \nJoin us for an evening with South African filmmaker Sesihle Manzini\, founder of Anno Domini. \nWe will watch her debut film\, A Piece of Ground\, and explore the theological framework that inspired her work.\ntrailer: https://www.annodominimag.africa/apieceofground \nThrough intimate storytelling and critical reflection\, the film introduces us to the praxis cycle – a framework inspired by Paulo Freire that teaches us that faithful action must flow from reflection\, and reflection from action. By exploring one piece of ground in Cape Town through a few different perspectives\, we learn to see our own spaces differently\, too. We begin to see who has been excluded\, and to recognize that restitution isn’t only about economics. It’s about memory\, physical space\, and reclaiming our agency to understand our immersions in the world so that we can act with compassion and justice. This event is made possible through a grant from the Episcopal Evangelism Society\, the Circles of Color in the Diocese of Olympia\, and the generous support of local partners. \nMarch 21\, 6pm at Holy Cross\, Redmond\nMarch 25\, 6pm at St. James Kent

SUMMARY:Weeklong Icon Class
DESCRIPTION:April 26 – May 2 \nRegistration: $550 \nEver wondered what makes an icon more than just a painting? Icons speak a unique visual language\, steeped in theology\, spirituality\, and beauty. Come learn that language firsthand in this introductory icon workshop\, where you will paint your own icon under the guidance of a seasoned iconographer. \nThroughout the week\, you’ll explore how icons draw us into prayer\, connect us with the saints\, and invite us to grow in holiness. You’ll discover how these holy images—rooted in Scripture and the Tradition of the Church—help us recognize God’s presence in our own lives. \nThe workshop will run Sunday\, April 26 (12:00-3:00 p.m.) and Monday\, April 27 – Saturday May 2\, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m\, at St Thomas Medina. In-person attendance will be required for the full week to complete the icon. \nThe $550 cost will cover all materials—boards\, paints\, brushes\, gold leaf\, and other supplies—so you don’t need to bring anything but yourself. Scholarships are available. \n❓Interested\, but have questions? Join us for a Zoom chat on Tuesday\, March 31\, 6.30-7.30pm PT\, where Kathy and Joseph will answer all of your questions! Sign up for the info session here.
