SUMMARY:Wisdom School: Wilderness Spirituality
DESCRIPTION:January 10\, 9:00 am \nBloedel Hall and online via Zoom (registration required) \nwith The Rt. Rev. Phil LaBelle\, Bishop of Olympia \nFor centuries\, Christians have been following Jesus’ lead and heading into the wilderness to find God. Wilderness experiences—both those intentionally taken in the natural world and those unplanned and taken metaphorically —strip away what’s unnecessary in our lives and give us an opportunity to pay attention to the inner workings of the soul. Belden Lane suggests that while there are times when we descend into difficult times in our lives\, it is then that we “may discover our greatest joy in having survived the night\, in finding resources we did not know we had\, falling back on a strength that was more than ours.” During this day\, we’ll discuss the realities of being in the wilderness—whether a hiking trail or a difficult season of life—and contemplate how to prepare for those times with spiritual practice\, discovering how we can cross the threshold from a time of descent to one of delight.

SUMMARY:Listening to the Land Retreat
DESCRIPTION:January 17\, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm \nDue to high interest but lower sign ups than hoped\, and a desire to make this retreat accessible to more people (both now and at a later date)\, we will be pivoting and offering a hybrid mini-version Saturday\, 1/17\, from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm with lunch included. \nThe mini-version will still happen on-site at Sacred Waters and on Zoom for those wanting to attend in-person or from home. Carpools from Seattle / Tacoma area will be available. We apologize for the late change in plans and hope you (and those who couldn’t initially participate!) will still join on the 17th or for our future retreat. We were really looking forward to sinking into a wonderful weekend with you and look forward to planting and nurturing the seeds planted together into a fuller garden!

SUMMARY:Becoming a Beloved Community: Disability Justice and the Church
DESCRIPTION:January 27\, 2:00 – 3:30 pm \nJoin others from the Diocese as we discuss what it means to create Beloved Church Communities that value and include people with disabilities in our midst. We want this to be a place to gauge desires and needs\, collaboratively building a pathway forward so churches can be equipped to welcome all people into their congregations and celebrate the gifts Disabled people can offer us. We suggest reading Anna Kenny’s book My Body is Not a Prayer Request: Disability Justice in the Church. This will provide us common language and understanding as we move forward in this work. It is available from local and the diocesan libraries\, Kindle\, Audible\, and accessible formats (BARD and Bookshare). \nFacilitators: \nJessica Thompson became disabled as a young adult and has worked for accessibility and inclusion specifically in third places for over 20 years. Coming to the Episcopal Church after experiencing religious trauma from “faith healing\,” she is blogger\, speaker\, and consultant for Bridge Disability Ministries. \nMelissa DelRio is a spoken word artist\, and advocate for disability and autism inclusion. She was diagnosed as autistic and ADHD in her 20s\, and writes on her experiences as a late diagnosed AudHD woman of color. Melissa has performed advocacy spoken word during trainings\, and workshops for disability advocacy\, cultural events\, and disability ministry events. \nA collaboration between: Bridge Disability Ministries—Beacon Church Collaborative\, Sacred Waters\, and the Diocese of Olympia. \nRegister for the Zoom link here. Questions can be sent to Adrienne at aelliott@ecww.org.

SUMMARY:Silence and Honey Cakes: Lessons from the Desert for Modern Communities
DESCRIPTION:February 21\, 8:30 am \nin person in Bloedel Hall and online via Zoom\, registration required. \nwith the Rev. Sr. Miriam Elizabeth Bledsoe\, OSH \nFrom the beginning\, we were created for belonging and community. And yet\, community also comes with many challenges\, including the temptations of individualism\, conformity\, competition and power. How do we discern and nourish the truth of who we are and who our neighbor is? How do we manage the variations of gifts\, limitations\, calls and vocations within our communities while also nurturing the persons in those communities and in the margins? The desert mothers and fathers of the 3rd and 4th centuries understood that the heart of the Christian path was communion with God and with one another. They also knew the challenges of belonging and community. These ammas and abbas will be our teachers as we explore belonging\, loving\, and navigating the blessings and temptations that can manifest in community. \nSuggested donation: $25. Registration is required for in-person or online participation (register to receive Zoom link).

SUMMARY:Prayer Vigil for Immigrant Solidarity
DESCRIPTION:April 16\, 6:30 pm \nThis April\, the diocese is hosting the annual churchwide AANHPI Leadership Retreat in partnership with Asiamerica Ministries. Over 70 Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Episcopalians will embark on a pilgrimage to sites of AANHPI history and memory in Seattle\, Tacoma\, and Bainbridge Island. The group will weave these stories with present-day solidarity with migrant communities currently under threat. \nAll are welcome to join the retreat’s prayer vigil at Christ Church\, Tacoma. We will hear from community organizers\, listen to testimonies from detainees\, and pray together. We will also have a chance to fold tsuru or Japanese cranes as symbols of hope\, peace\, and compassion. \nYou and your church are invited to fold tsuru ahead of this event too. We will be hanging strands of solidarity at the NW detention center and other sites along our journey. Feel free to write a prayer if you wish and fold with your community at coffee hour\, etc! Cranes can be mailed flat to the Diocesan House or brought to the vigil.

SUMMARY:Cathedral Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:April 25 \nCathedral Day is a “family reunion” for Episcopalians from across western Washington. It’s a time for connecting across congregations and experiencing all your cathedral has to offer. For centuries\, cathedrals have served as Christian pilgrimage sites\, drawing people of faith into their orbit of wonder and awe. This year’s Cathedral Day celebrates the idea of pilgrimage\, with Saint Mark’s serving as your sacred destination. \nThis journey might feel especially resonant for those who seek to be confirmed\, received\, or reaffirmed by our bishop\, the Rt. Rev. Philip N. LaBelle\, during the Cathedral Day liturgy. As Jesus said to the first ones to follow him as people of The Way: Come and see…so are we invited to join on this journey together. \nPlease RSVP for all attendees in order to secure your free food truck lunch. Your voucher(s) will be available at the event. \nAll congregations attending Cathedral Day are invited to bring their banners to carry in the procession. \nSTREAM THE SERVICE OR VIEW THE RECORDING\nThe service will be streamed at saintmarks.org/livestream. After the service\, an archive recording will be available on the cathedral website.

Expect ample unstructured time\, gift bags and prizes\, firepit conversations\, sunset viewing\, massages\, kayaks and profound conversations. \nAlongside rest\, we will hold some intentional space for conversation and reflection on how to be clergy during this particularly troubling time in our world. How can we lead with courage\, clarity\, and pastoral wisdom in this moment? \nWe are also delighted to welcome The Rev. Dr. Stephen Shaver\, former priest and friend of this diocese. He will lead a session exploring and supporting the richness of our liturgical life in the Pacific Northwest. \n  \nRegistration is per person and includes: \n2 to 3 nights of lodging (Sunday\, Monday and Tuesday) in queen rooms. DESCRIPTION:October 8–19\, 2026\nEarly registration discount ends: December 31\, 2025\nRegistration closes: April 1\, 2026\nFull payment due: July 1\, 2026 \n$5\,999 Registration per Person (Double Occupancy until 12/31/25)\n$6\,149 Registration per Person (Double Occupancy from 1/1/26)\n$1\,500 Single Supplement (Limited Availability) \nLeader: The Very Rev. Steven L. Thomason \nGreece has often been called the birthplace of democracy and the cradle of Western Civilization. It\, together with Turkey\, is also the earliest home of Christianity outside of the Palestine/Israel. Led by The Very Rev. Steven L. Thomason and local archaeological guides on the ground\, this 12-day pilgrimage traces the footsteps of Paul in Greece and Turkey as he engaged the early Christian communities there. Our journey will take us to the well-preserved ruins of Athens\, Corinth\, Philippi\, and Thessaloniki in Greece. Along the way\, you’ll marvel at the byzantine monasteries perched on the cliffs of Meteora. In Turkey\, we’ll visit Smyrna and Pergamum\, two of the churches to whom Revelation was written to encourage them during troubled times. On our last full day we’ll explore Ephesus\, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Letter to the Ephesians is a remarkable witness to Paul’s courage and encouragement to the beleaguered Church. Note: Our schedule may be adjusted based on guide availability. \nFull details\, including pilgrimage brochure\, can be found at saintmarks.org/learn/wisdom-school/pilgrimages/
