SUMMARY:Weekly Online Welcoming & Centering & Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Fridays\, starting September 19\, 12:00 pm \n$20 Suggested Donation to Sacred Waters \nWeekly Online Interspiritual Group Contemplative Practices beginning Friday\, September 19\, via Zoom. Welcoming Prayer meets Fridays from 12:00pm PT to 12:30pm PT. Centering Prayer meets Fridays from 12:30pm PT to approximately 1:00pm PT. Fee: $20/month for either or both sessions. Register to receive the Zoom link. \nThough contemplative practices are often thought of as solitary endeavors\, community is a very important component in supporting our individual intentions. Whether you’re an experienced contemplative or just starting to engage\, you’re welcome to join in! \nWelcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. The purpose of the Welcoming Prayer is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day — “consent-on-the-go.” \nCentering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer\, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us\, closer than breathing\, closer than thinking\, closer than consciousness itself. \nFacilitator: Sylvia Sepulveda is a longtime longtime practitioner\, organizer\, and facilitator of contemplative group practices. She offers spiritual direction\, dreamwork\, retreats\, and art-based workshops through Secret Garden Practices (https://secretgardenpractices.com/).

SUMMARY:Wisdom School: Wilderness Spirituality
DESCRIPTION:January 10\, 9:00 am \nBloedel Hall and online via Zoom (registration required) \nwith The Rt. Rev. Phil LaBelle\, Bishop of Olympia \nFor centuries\, Christians have been following Jesus’ lead and heading into the wilderness to find God. Wilderness experiences—both those intentionally taken in the natural world and those unplanned and taken metaphorically —strip away what’s unnecessary in our lives and give us an opportunity to pay attention to the inner workings of the soul. Belden Lane suggests that while there are times when we descend into difficult times in our lives\, it is then that we “may discover our greatest joy in having survived the night\, in finding resources we did not know we had\, falling back on a strength that was more than ours.” During this day\, we’ll discuss the realities of being in the wilderness—whether a hiking trail or a difficult season of life—and contemplate how to prepare for those times with spiritual practice\, discovering how we can cross the threshold from a time of descent to one of delight.

SUMMARY:Come As You Are Eucharist
DESCRIPTION:Sundays\, 4:00 pm \nThe Come As You Are service is casual and welcoming. While it follows the structure of Anglican liturgy\, it’s designed for those who may have a hard time sitting still\, whether you’re a toddler or an octogenarian. This service creates opportunities for all to participate in worship\, either by moving between prayer stations\, hearing the Gospel told in story form\, engaging in an interactive sermon\, or gathering around the altar. It’s for people who have never been to church before\, and for anyone seeking a place to belong.

SUMMARY:Choral Evensong
DESCRIPTION:Sung at the close of day in Cathedrals and churches throughout the world\, Choral Evensong is a service of Evening Prayer\, derived from the ancient offices of Vespers and Compline. The choir sings the traditional evening prayers of the church that have been offered for centuries\, while the congregation listens\, joins in the hymns\, and adds their own prayers to those of the choir. It is an opportunity for peaceful meditation in the midst of a busy week. \nEvery Sunday at 5:30 pm. \nFollowed by a reception.

DESCRIPTION:January 17\, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm \nDue to high interest but lower sign ups than hoped\, and a desire to make this retreat accessible to more people (both now and at a later date)\, we will be pivoting and offering a hybrid mini-version Saturday\, 1/17\, from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm with lunch included. \nThe mini-version will still happen on-site at Sacred Waters and on Zoom for those wanting to attend in-person or from home. Carpools from Seattle / Tacoma area will be available. With more relationship cultivation and church groups involved\, we plan to offer a full weekend retreat later in the year (stay tuned for the date!). \nOn Saturday the 17th\, we will: \n\nspend time in contemplative communion with Creation\ntalk about your current or aspiring land/water-based work (Wild Church outside; rain\, food\, or pollinator gardens; eco-preaching; contemplative practices\, etc!)\ndiscuss our church needs and a possible path forward for support and community (church grants\, land-based coaching\, church cohort program)\nEat\, pray\, and spend time in Creation together!\n\nPlease sign up here if you’d like to participate. We apologize for the late change in plans and hope you (and those who couldn’t initially participate!) will still join on the 17th or for our future retreat. We were really looking forward to sinking into a wonderful weekend with you and look forward to planting and nurturing the seeds planted together into a fuller garden!

SUMMARY:Living on the Edge: How Human Nature Is Being Hacked — and How We Can Respect Each Other Again
DESCRIPTION:January 20\, 7:00 pm \nWe all feel it: something is pulling us apart.\nNeighbors who used to talk across the fence now glare across a divide.\nFamilies struggle to talk about the world without arguing.\nWhole communities feel blamed\, forgotten\, or under attack.\nIn this public talk\, Rev. Terry Kyllo offers a hopeful\, practical path forward. Drawing from social research\, Scripture\, interfaith wisdom\, and years of bridge-building work\, Terry explains how our human nature is being hacked—by digital algorithms\, political movements\, and economic forces—and how fear drives us into exclusive ingroups that turn neighbors into strangers. This gets expressed in Christian Nationalism\, extremist groups\, cancel culture\, and moral emptiness.\nBut he also shows how we can reclaim our agency\, restore trust\, and rebuild our communities.\nTerry lifts up the unseen majority—people of many traditions\, backgrounds\, and beliefs—who want to live with respect\, courage\, and shared purpose. He invites us into a new way of seeing each other\, grounded in Civic Compassion\, Civic Humility\, Civic Responsibility\, and Civil Courage.\nThis event is for anyone who feels anxious about the future\, tired of division\, or longing for a more human way to live together.\nCome hear a message of clarity\, honesty\, and hope—and take a step toward healing our common life.

SUMMARY:Becoming a Beloved Community: Disability Justice and the Church
DESCRIPTION:January 27\, 2:00 – 3:30 pm \nJoin others from the Diocese as we discuss what it means to create Beloved Church Communities that value and include people with disabilities in our midst. We want this to be a place to gauge desires and needs\, collaboratively building a pathway forward so churches can be equipped to welcome all people into their congregations and celebrate the gifts Disabled people can offer us. We suggest reading Anna Kenny’s book My Body is Not a Prayer Request: Disability Justice in the Church. This will provide us common language and understanding as we move forward in this work. It is available from local and the diocesan libraries\, Kindle\, Audible\, and accessible formats (BARD and Bookshare). \nFacilitators: \nJessica Thompson became disabled as a young adult and has worked for accessibility and inclusion specifically in third places for over 20 years. Coming to the Episcopal Church after experiencing religious trauma from “faith healing\,” she is blogger\, speaker\, and consultant for Bridge Disability Ministries. \nMelissa DelRio is a spoken word artist\, and advocate for disability and autism inclusion. She was diagnosed as autistic and ADHD in her 20s\, and writes on her experiences as a late diagnosed AudHD woman of color. Melissa has performed advocacy spoken word during trainings\, and workshops for disability advocacy\, cultural events\, and disability ministry events. \nA collaboration between: Bridge Disability Ministries—Beacon Church Collaborative\, Sacred Waters\, and the Diocese of Olympia. \nRegister for the Zoom link here.
