On Wednesday, November 8 at 7:30 pm, we’ll hold a traditional Taizé prayer service at Epiphany Parish of Seattle followed by a dessert reception and discussion with Brother Emile.

Taizé music is popular in churches everywhere. In addition to the beautiful chants, Taizé is known for its commitment to ecumenism and ongoing deep prayer for peace. It was among the first ecumenical monasteries in the world, authorized to ordain monks from the Anglican, Lutheran, Roman Catholic and other Christian traditions. There are many countries and many languages represented among the 100+ brothers.

Thousands visit Taizé in France from around the world each week from April through October with over 90% of them under 35. All three daily worship services are conducted in multiple languages. They have much to teach us about building connection and community across differences.

Brother Emile was born in Canada in 1956 and joined the Taizé community in 1976. At Taizé, he frequently leads Bible studies and workshops and teaches theology. He has written on the otherness of God; the Eucharist; and the Early Christians. He is the author of Faithful to the Future: Listening to Yves Congar.
