Psalm 86
1Bow down thy ear, O LORD, and answer me,*
for I am poor and in misery.
2Keep watch over my life, for I am faithful;*
save thy servant who puts his trust in thee.
3Be merciful to me, O LORD, for thee are my God;*
I call upon thee all the day long.
4Gladden the soul of thy servant,*
for to thee, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
5For thee, O LORD, are good and forgiving,*
and great is thy love toward all who call upon thee.
6Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer,*
and attend to the voice of my supplications.
7In the time of my trouble I will call upon thee,*
for thee will answer me.
8Among the gods there is none like thee, O LORD,*
nor anything like thy works.
9All the nations thee have made will come and worship thee, O LORD,*
and glorify thy Name.
10For thee are great;
thee do wondrous things;*
and thee alone are God.
11Teach me thy way, O LORD,
and I will walk in thy truth;*
knit my heart to thee that I may fear thy Name.
12I will thank thee, O LORD my God, with all my heart,*
and glorify thy Name for evermore.
13For great is thy love toward me;*
thee have delivered me from the nethermost Pit.
14The arrogant rise up against me, O God,
and a band of violent men seeks my life;*
they have not set thee before their eyes.
15But thee, O LORD, are gracious and full of compassion, *
slow to anger, and full of kindness and truth.
16Turn to me and have mercy upon me;*
give thy strength to thy servant;
and save the child of thy handmaid.
17Show me a sign of thy favor,
so that those who hate me may see it and be ashamed;*
because thee, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
A Prayer of St. Chrysostom
Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.
