On the Eve of The Second Sunday after Pentecost (which on the Roman Calendar is the Feast of Corpus Christi, or Body of Christ), St. Paul’s, Seattle will be offering Evensong and Benediction.
Evensong is a sung form of Evening Prayer, grounded in our Anglican tradition. “Benediction” is shorthand for the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, a liturgy in which we meditate on the Real Presence of Christ’s Body. Our reverence for the sacramental presence of Christ’s Body and Blood is but one expression of our belief that Christ has ascended into all times and places, and is powerfully present not only in the consecrated bread and wine, but also in and with every human person.
When we contemplate in this solemn liturgy the presence of Christ among us, we are invited to reflect more deeply on our shared baptismal calling to seek and serve Christ in every dimension of congregational life: in our shared parish mission, and in our diverse individual vocations.
