Good Shepherd is proud to host a special screening of the new documentary film The Philadelphia Eleven. This film, directed by Margo Guernsey and Nikki Bramley, tells the story of the first women ordained as priests in the Episcopal Church. Their ordinations constituted an act of “civil disobedience,” as the filmmakers say, because the Episcopal Church formally barred women from ordained ministry. Their struggle for recognition, and a movement that eventually overturned long-standing church tradition, are at the heart of this film.
A panel discussion will follow featuring The Rev. Carol Hosler, who was present at these women’s ordination service in 1974, and The Rev. Elise Johnstone, rector of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Seattle. This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited: pre-register at https://tinyurl.com/phil11goodshep.
