The Canon to the Ordinary works with clergy in transition and oversees the transition processes with congregations. This role manages the Commission and Committees related to congregation grant processes, development and strategy as well as evangelism. They also coordinate the Consulting Network team along with the Director of the College of Congregational Development providing leadership development and facilitation.

This department also provides resources for Letters of Mutual Ministry Agreements (M.M.A.s) and Mutual Ministry Reviews (M.M.R.s). It manages the background checks for clergy and diocesan lay professional employees and works with the diocesan case manager with issues of misconduct and its prevention. In addition, conflict resolution and mediation is handled by this office.
The Canon to the Ordinary works directly with the Bishop to do any additional work that needs to be done.
