Please join us in welcoming the Rev. Robert Stevens, who has been called to serve as Interim Rector at St. Peter’s, Seattle. Robert will begin that call on October 25, 2026.

After serving a two-year curacy at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist in West Seattle, Fr. Robert is pleased to accept St. Peter’s Episcopal Church’s call to serve as interim rector. St. Peter’s significant history, its place in the local community, and its standing within the Episcopal Church excite him about joining their ministry. Fr. Robert serves on the Diocese of Olympia’s Personnel Commission and the Diocesan Council, and he is the Convenor of the Diocese’s Budget & Finance Committee.

Before attending seminary at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California, Fr. Robert spent 28 years in executive leadership at private law firms in Seattle-Tacoma and Honolulu, Hawaii. Before his career in legal administration, he worked for Catholic Community Services – SW in Parish Ministry and Human Resources Management, and during that time completed a Master of Pastoral Ministry degree from Seattle University. Robert’s call to ordained ministry was rekindled after many years when he and his husband, Carlos Vargas Valdes, found their spiritual home in the Episcopal Church and became active parishioners at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral. They were married there, and it became Robert’s sponsoring parish for ordination.

Fr. Robert and Carlos share a townhouse in Seattle with two adopted dogs: Micah, a Chihuahua mix, and Marshall, a tripod Jack Russell Terrier mix. Carlos works in legal administration and human resources management. In his downtime, Fr. Robert tends to their small yard, loves to travel, prepares most meals, and spends time with friends and family. He is also an iconographer, which he views as a spiritual practice.

Fr. Robert can be reached at FrRobert@stpeterseattle.org.

Keep Robert and St. Peter’s in your prayers as they begin this new ministry together.
