There has been a lot of discussion over the years about what makes faith “stick” with some people, and not with others. In particular, families are often concerned with how to pass faith from one generation to another. A new resource was released last month, “The StickyFaith Guide for Your Family” by Dr. Kara Powell of Fuller Theological Seminary. It is full of ideas for ways families can pass on the faith – from thinking about how we handle mistakes to service opportunities for parents and children together to ways for parents to model and talk about their own faith. One of my favorite sections focuses on how to surround your child or teen with five caring adults of faith, including a section of ideas for grandparents and older adult as well. This book is a recent addition to our Resource Center library, and is available for checkout!
In addition, one of the leaders in the StickyFaith team, Dr. Chap Clark, will be presenting two workshops in our diocese on September 13 at St. Thomas, Medina. From 10:00 a.m. – noon he will address youth workers on ways to support teens and families in faith formation. From 4:00-6:00 p.m. he will speak directly to parents about the realities of life for today’s teenagers, and ways for families to stay connected and build faith.
