On November 18, members of the Diocese and Seattle’s Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community gathered with family at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle to celebrate the life of The Rev. Canon Jerry Shigaki.

Congregations and ministers whose lives he touched offered words and music in many tongues in gratitude for Canon Shigaki’s work of truth-telling, supporting, and gathering Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Episcopalians in Ethnic Ministries and more recently, via the Circles of Color.

The service was followed by a reception and multicultural feast.

Watch the liturgy recording below.

You can also view images from this time of celebration and gratitude below.

Those who wish are invited to donate in Canon Shigaki’s memory to support the diocesan BIPOC Ministry Fund as one way of supporting his legacy among us.

Please make checks payable to The Diocese of Olympia with “Jerry Shigaki” in the memo.

Gifts may also be made online (select BIPOC Ministry Fund in the Giving Options drop-down menu and list In Memory of “Jerry Shigaki”).
