On September 1, Episcopalians from across Western Washington gathered to celebrate the ministry of our bishop provisional, The Most Rev. Melissa Skelton. Bishop Skelton has led the Diocese of Olympia since January 1, 2023, during this season of transition as we entered into the nearly two-year process of calling a new bishop to the Diocese.
The celebration occurred at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle, with The Very Rev. Steven L. Thomason presiding over the evening’s choral evensong and our new bishop-elect, The Rev. Philip N. LaBelle, preaching.
It was a wonderful evening of worship, fellowship, and community, followed by a reception and a presentation of a special gift to Bishop Skelton on behalf of members of the Diocese. The gift was “Sgaarang Xyaalang Sdang (Two Dancing),” a seriagraph by Robert Davidson (Haida).
