From Bishop Rickel:

Dear Ones,

Like you, I awoke today to the sad and devastating news of the train derailment in Dupont. Our hearts ache for those who died and for those they loved and who loved them who now mourn their loss. We give thanks for the first responders, who by all accounts, have performed heroically this day. And for the many who were on the interstate who risked their lives to help after witnessing the accident. I know you are praying too.

Lord, we pray for those who have been devastated by this tragedy. We remember those who have lost their lives so suddenly. We hold in our hearts the families forever changed by grief and loss. Bring them consolation and comfort. Surround them with our prayers for strength. Bless those who have survived and heal their memories of trauma and devastation. May they have the courage to face the days ahead.

Help us, as we can and as we are asked, to respond with generosity in prayer, in assistance, and in comfort to the best of our abilities. Keep our hearts focused on the needs of all the community. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
