On Tuesday, July 22, the Rt. Rev. Gregory H Rickel ordained Jennifer King Daugherty, John Forman, Josh Hosler, Laura Murray, and Alissa Newton to the sacred order of priests. Family, friends, their sponsoring congregations, the clergy of the diocese, and well-wishers filled St Mark’s Cathedral on the Feast of St Mary Magdalene to celebrate this momentous moment in the life of church. Read a little about them and their first call below, and join us in congratulating Jennifer, John, Josh, Laura, and Alissa.

JenniferKingDaughertyThe Rev. Jennifer King Daugherty is delighted to join Saint Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle as a curate in August. She received her MDiv from Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry and served as a Transitional Deacon at St. Clement, Seattle. Her sending parish is Emmanuel, Mercer Island. She will continue her work as Managing Director of Ponder & Co., a financial advisory firm that serves non-profit health care systems. She and her husband, Will, have three teenage children.

JohnFormanThe Rev. John Forman will serve as an Associate Priest at the Church of the Redeemer in Kenmore. He received his MDiv from Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry, while working as a consultant, author and the grad assistant to the Ecumenical Liturgical Director. He is grateful for the support and love of his wife, Jennifer, their daughters, Emily and Elizabeth, and for extended family and friends from Redeemer, St. Paul, Seattle; Ascension, Seattle and beyond.

JoshHoslerThe Rev. Josh Hosler, a longtime Seattle resident, spent seven years working at St. Thomas, Medina, before leaving for Virginia Theological Seminary. He and his wife Christy met as founding members of a young adults group at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle and were married there. Their daughter Sarah is almost nine. Josh has just begun his first ordained call as curate at St. Paul, Bellingham, and one-third-time campus minister at Western Washington University.

LauraMurrayThe Rev. Laura Murray received her MDiv from Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. She served as deacon at Church of Reconciliation in San Antonio, and she is thrilled to be serving as curate at St. John, Gig Harbor. Her husband, Michael, and daughters Jacquelyn and Miranda have faithfully supported her, as has her sending parish, St. Paul, Bremerton. Prior to seminary, Laura worked on myriad public projects as a negotiator and relocation specialist.

AlissaNewtonThe Rev. Alissa Newton is a recent graduate of Seattle University’s Masters of Divinity Program, and the Director of Congregational Development for the Diocese of Olympia. She hopes that her background as a congregational consultant and work with congregations across the diocese will help to inform her newest role as Vicar of St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Kent, WA. In her free time Alissa likes to play the drums, read geeky fiction and spend time with her husband Andrew and their two daughters.
