Please join us in welcoming The Rev. David Walker, who has been called to serve as interim priest at St. Paul’s, Mount Vernon. David will begin that call on January 1, 2026.
David’s first call to serve as a priest after completing his studies at Sewanee was as the vicar of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Sandpoint, ID, in the Diocese of Spokane. He also had the privilege of serving as the interim pastor at First Lutheran Church, located in Sandpoint, as they considered the calling of a new pastor. Their goal was to relocate to the Mt. Vernon area upon his wife’s retirement in December 2024 to be closer to their family. After several opportunities to serve as a supply priest at St. Paul’s, conversations between the Diocese and the parish explored the possibility of his serving as the interim priest during the congregation’s discernment to call its next rector. As David says, “This interim call has been directed by the movement of the Spirit, and I am excited to serve in this role until a call is made for the next rector.”
After a forty-year career in banking and finance, split fairly evenly between California and Washington, he retired and answered the call to consider ordination to the priesthood. he is deeply grateful to his wife of 44 years, Julie, who supported this discernment and with whom they shared nearly five fabulous years with the good folks at Holy Spirit. They moved to Western WA to be closer to their two sons, daughters-in-law, and their 8-year-old granddaughter. Julie is living her best life, being closer to their children and extended family, and volunteering several times a week in the Mt. Vernon area with Meals on Wheels and Bargains Galore. “Life is good, and we are truly blessed.”
