The Episcopal Diocese of Olympia is pleased to announce that Circles of Color, in collaboration with the Office of the Bishop, will be welcoming Katya Nemec into the position of Program Assistant with Circles of Color. In this role, Katya will work to expand the Circles of Color communications platforms; provide support to their events and program planning; and help promote the ministries, communities, and networks connecting diverse peoples and allies within the diocese. Katya will serve in the role of Program Assistant through the end the year, establishing the initial communication tools vital to the continuing work of advocacy, education, and racial justice that are central to Circles of Color and foundational to creating the Beloved Community.

Katya Nemec was born in Japan and graduated high school there before moving to the United States for college at Santa Clara University. Katya then went to Emory University in Atlanta (where she picked up using the amazing and inclusive word y’all in case any of you were wondering) for grad school and then moved to Richmond, VA to marry her college sweetheart, Daniel. They moved to the Seattle area three years ago, and Katya started working for Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Mercer Island as their Associate for Youth and Family Ministries. In the past few years, she became involved with both the young adults group at the diocese and with Ethnic Ministries Circles of Color. She is currently going back to school at The Seattle School of Psychology and Theology so she can finish her chaplaincy credentials. Katya is proud of her Filipina and Eastern European heritage and loves to share her culture with others by cooking and baking family recipes. She also loves her ridiculous standard poodle Tchaikovsky, coffee, hiking, reading, and playing games on her Nintendo Switch.

Please join us in welcoming Katya as she joins Circles of Color as their Program Assistant through the end of this year.
