Evensong and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on the Eve of the Reign of Christ

November 21, 5:30 pm

Join us for Evensong & Benediction in our recently-restored 1930s chapel at St. Paul’s, Seattle, on Saturday, November 21, at 5:30 PM!
*Please note: this chanted service will include incense.*

A brief, solemn service of evensong with chanted canticles and psalms, ancient hymns written by St. Thomas Aquinas, and a meditation on the incarnation of Christ with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. This form of devotion, praise, and thanksgiving began in the early thirteenth century as Christians reflected more intently on the mystery of Christ’s presence, revealed in bread and wine. You may read more about this special service in St. Augustine’s Prayerbook (p.194), which describes it thus: “it is a great joy and blessing simply to be in the presence of so great a gift, and Christians naturally respond to blessing and joy with worship and thanksgiving.” When we contemplate the presence of Christ among us, we are invited to reflect more deeply on our shared baptismal calling to seek and serve Christ in every dimension of our lives.

So, if you long to recognize Christ in the faces of neighbors and strangers alike, if you are drawn to the ancient voices and practices of Christianity, if you are curious about sacraments and the enduring catholicity of the Episcopal Church, we’d love for you to join us!
