Maundy Thursday is the traditional English name for the Thursday preceding Easter when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples in the Passover meal they shared before his arrest, trial, and crucifixion. On this day we celebrate the institution of the Eucharist by Jesus when he instructed the disciples and us to “do this (break bread and share wine) in remembrance of me.” At the close of the service the Altar is stripped as the congregation watches in silence. Following this, the congregation leaves in silence.
