How about getting together and working on this?
These days I’m hearing more and more from congregations interested in launching new Sunday liturgies. What I tell them is that I’m thrilled they’re at the point of exploring this AND that it’s not just a matter of noodling through what they might want to do and going ahead and launching it.
For me, what this work will take is a time of discernment, prayer (on the part of priest and congregation) and facilitated conversations in which people learn about the collective wisdom of the Church on starting new liturgies, explore their current situation, and look at options for what they might want to do. It will also mean working with a team on the core approach and concept of the new liturgy (or new congregation!) as well as creating a team that monitors and responds when things come up in the new liturgy or community that no one expected.
I’d like to host a day for clergy and laity from congregations interested in working together on the process of launching a new Sunday liturgy. In this day, we would review material addressing some of the core issues involved as well as talk the particularities of process. I’d like to do this in May or June.
