FoundationCristosalFoundation Cristosal is a faith-based human rights and community development NGO based in El Salvador. The Cristosal Global School works to develop global awareness and movement toward transformative social change in which each individual’s rights are respected. The School offers two week-long field courses in El Salvador this summer: LGBT Rights & Sexual Diversity Ministry in the the Episcopal Church, July 7-14; and, Public Theology: The Voices for Justice in Society, July 19-26.

In LGBT Rights & Sexual Diversity Ministry in the the Episcopal Church, participants will investigate the unique role of the Anglican-Episcopal Church in the Salvadoran LGBT movement and observe the ministry from the perspective of clergy, lay ministers and the wider congregation. In El Salvador, people who identify with a diverse sexual orientation or gender face enormous obstacles, with civil society often dominated by an environment of homophobia, heterosexism and machismo. The Anglican-Episcopal Church of El Salvador is one of the only Salvadoran churches to welcome openly LGBT individuals as active members of its congregation, supporting them in faith formation and self-acceptance through its Sexual Diversity Ministry. Public Theology: The Voices for Justice in Society will explore critical questions such as: Ever wonder what it means to truly act on behalf of another? Should the church have a role in protecting human rights? How do we as individuals make a real, positive difference? In partnership with the Anglican Alliance for Development, Relief and Advocacy we’ll look at the historical role of the church as an advocate for justice and how it can have a powerful impact on contemporary issues. Join a diverse group of international clergy, seminarians, lay people and faith-based development organizations to explore how the church can play an active, positive role in rights issues in El Salvador and the Americas. Contact Global School Coordinator Olivia Amadon at trips.cristosal@gmail.com to sign up or learn more.

Each course is $785/person, plus airfare.
