Michael Seewer
Executive Assistant to the BishopMichael Seewer joins the diocesan staff after working for the last six years at Saint Mark’s Cathedral as Cathedral Sacristan & Head Verger. While at Saint Mark’s, he was a key part of navigating the challenges of the pandemic, helped streamline and improve volunteer recruitment and communication, and was a key leader in helping start three different ministries (Queer in Christ, 40s/50s, and Taizé Prayer). Prior to his work at Saint Mark’s, he worked for nearly 20 years in international logistics, serving most recently as a manager of a local customs brokerage office for UPS Supply Chain Solutions. During his time at UPS, he gained valuable organizational, technical, and leadership skills that he continues to put to good use in his faithful work among us. Michael has been no stranger to the broader Diocese, having served our Diocese twice as a delegate to Diocesan Convention, once as deputy to General Convention and Provincial Synod, being a member of the diocesan Liturgy and Arts Commission, and most recently serving on the Bishop Transition Committee resulting in the election and consecration of Bishop LaBelle.
Michael has a passion for liturgy, hymnody, interfaith and ecumenical relations, contemplative prayer (especially Taizé), and a faith formed deeply by Anglican spirituality and tradition. He is a member of St. Paul’s in Seattle and is looking forward to becoming more deeply involved in that community as he transitions to this new role working for the Diocese. In his spare time outside of church activities, he loves to cook, travel, speak, and learn foreign languages (he’s fluent in German and continues to study French and Spanish), and read a good book while enjoying a cup of black coffee. He has a BA degree in International Studies and German and, though originally hailing from Kentucky, has called Seattle and the beautiful Pacific Northwest his home for the last 11 years.
