Please join us in welcoming the Rev. Theodore Renaud, who has been called to serve as Priest-in-Charge at Emmanuel, Mercer Island. Ted+ will begin that call on September 1, 2026.

It took me two near-death battles with cancer to realize my call to the priesthood. Fortunately, the Holy Spirit had been preparing me all my life with the tools I would need when I finally heeded that call. My call to Emmanuel Mercer Island became clear when I saw a congregation in need of someone to remind them that they are beloved children of God and worthy of love and compassion. I truly felt the pull of the Holy Spirit when my wife and I were welcomed into the community in a way that showed Emmanuel lived a life centered on Christian hospitality.

We were created in relationship, and in relationship we grow Godward. My wife and I share a blended family of five adult children, including one who is differently abled, and we have been blessed to watch them grow into wonderful people. Living life on the margins has shaped me and taught me the importance of affirming the dignity and worth of every human being, and after spending most of our lives in Northern Virginia, we now look forward to experiencing life in the Pacific Northwest, meeting new people, and having family and friends come to visit. I look forward to sharing my story, hearing the stories of others in the Diocese, and discerning together how God is calling us to serve.

Keep Ted in your prayers as he prepares to begin his new call, along with all congregations and clergy in transition.
