At its most recent meeting the advisory board for the Bishop Nedi Rivera Latino Ministry Fund recommended disbursement of $20,000 to the on-going Spanish-speaking congregation at St. Luke’s/San Lucas in Vancouver, under the leadership of the Rev. Jesus Reyes.

The grant process of the Rivera Fund is intended to support existing Latino congregations in the diocese as they re-gather after the pandemic, and in response to other past leadership and support challenges.

The grant for San Lucas envisions a three-stage process of community and discipleship, with multi-generational Christian formation and community building. Meals, Christian education, and a summer children’s program are all part of what Padre Jesus sees as building “a powerful sense of community… essential for the healthy incorporation of the fast-growing Latino presence in our area and the solid development of the second and further generations.” In strengthening a relational/missional program, the grant will accompany a congregation whose “faith feeds our experiences and our daily experiences come to enrich our faith.” Congratulations to the people and leaders of San Lucas!
