October 4, 4:30 pm
Come celebrate Saint Francis Day with Saint Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle, on Saturday, October 4, at 4:30 p.m. on the front lawn and labyrinth. This beloved annual tradition brings the community together to honor creation and bless the animals who share our lives, from dogs and cats to birds, bunnies, ponies, and chickens. The service includes prayers for healing our relationship with the earth, joyful music from the Cathedral Choir School’s choristers, and an opportunity for each animal (or stuffed animal or photo of a pet) to receive an individual blessing from a priest. Following the liturgy, enjoy a festive reception with treats for pets and people alike. All are welcome—neighbors, families, and friends—with or without animal companions; please keep animals leashed or kenneled, and bring a lawn chair if desired.
