We’ve got a wonder-filled Godly Play day planned for you! Through a collaboration between the Diocese of Olympia, the Godly Play Foundation and Saint Mark’s Cathedral, we are able to offer a day of education for all: those who are new to this methodology and those who have been practicing for a long time. We expect this to be a day of learning, experiencing, sharing, and community building, as we immerse ourselves in all aspects of this impactful approach.
Our day-long agenda is packed with good things!
We’ll break-out into small groups for a:
- Godly Play Introduction & Overview – For newcomers or those who would like a refresher;
- Best practices exchange & refresher – For experienced practitioners;
- Review of exciting new materials and new stories; and,
- Demo of how to use Godly Play with older children and intergenerationally.
We’ll also spend time together to experience:
- The “Beloved Me/Beloved We” project which has resulted in more inclusive storytelling;
- The results of a recent equity audit; and,
- The “Every Day Godly Play” initiative.
Materials Exchange: Bring a wish-list of the resource materials you need for your classrooms. Do you have duplicates? Bring any extra Godly Play resources that you would be willing to donate and we will host a materials exchange!
Model Classroom: Finally, we’re excited to unveil our “Model Godly Play Classroom,” located in the St. Nicholas building and recently transformed by an artist and volunteers into an ideal space for gathering children. This is the home of Godly Play for the families of Saint Mark’s Cathedral.
$25/person includes continental breakfast, your choice of lunch, and a book with registration — choose between:
- Godly Play in Middle and Late Childhood, Cheryl V. Minor (2022)
- Teaching Godly Play: How to Mentor the Spiritual Development of Children, Jerome W. Berryman (2009)
Scholarships are always available and we will reimburse round-trip mileage and tolls for carpooling. Child-care is available on request (through the registration process).
Join us on Saturday, October 12th at the St. Nicholas Building, next door to Saint Mark’s Cathedral for this special event. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Frequently Asked Questions
The result of a lifetime of research and practice by theologian, author and educator, Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman, the Godly Play method is a curriculum of spiritual practice exploring the mystery of God’s presence in our lives.
Godly Play uses simple materials to tell Bible stories, parables, and liturgical lessons. It encourages people to connect faith stories to their own experiences through open-ended responses, silence, and wondering questions.
